I had been making jewellery for over 10 years but was getting very bored with the beads I was able to purchase.

So I took myself off on a quest to make my own, where I discovered Lampwork bead making and fused glass. The rest they say is history. I was completely hooked and have been fusing and lampworking in my West Midlands's studio now for over 6 years. I work with Plowden & Thompson English glass, Italian Morretti glass both "soft” soda glass and Borosilicate "hard" glass (Pyrex).

I have trained with such wonderful bead artists as Diane East (UK) Lezlie Winemaker (Canada) and Aleck & Emily Lake (New Zealand) and I will be forever indebted to them for there generosity, patience and inspiration.

I would also like to mention Plowden & Thompson glass who hosted my first ever venture into bead making and have always been there for help, advice and supplies.

Dichroic Pendants

Dichroic Glass is somewhat misleading, since the dielectric coating that produces all the interesting colours is not glass at all, but a group of very thin layers of metal oxides. This stack of thin layers has a total thickness of three to five millionths of an inch. The layers produce an "interference filter" creating the varied and unique colours we see.

The type of glass I use can be "soft" Soda glass from Italy, the UK and the USA or Boro silicate which is classed as a "hard" glass. (Pyrex)
All of of my work is annealed in a kiln to ensure durability.
